“Fredwreck” Nassar was born June 23, 1972
in Flint, Michigan to Palestinian parents who were fleeing
the tyranny of the Israeli Zionists ravaging there homeland.
He moved to California at age 11 and quickly got into
breakdancing and then djing. Making mixtapes for his
crew to breakdance to led to Fred Djing local house
parties and then school dances. He then got a job working
at the local record store, and quickly moved up in responsibility
by becoming a buyer for the store. This put him in touch
on a weekly basis with the local radio stations' music
directors who would check in with him to see what the
hottest records were that Dj’s were buying. When
one of the local on-air Dj’s quit, Fred sent his
mix reel in and it was played on the air the same night.
The response was so good that he was brought back for
the mix the next week, and the rest is history.
As one of the early members of the Wake Up Show with
Sway, King Tech & Joe Quixx, Wreck was allowed to
play his own beats as drops and music beds. At the same
time Fred was interning at local studios where he learned
everything there was to know about music and recording,
while still Djing on the radio and 2 nights a week in
local clubs. Taking acapella’s from records and
remixing them with his own music on his mixshow led
to Fred getting major label remix jobs, and then to
full out production contracts. A collector of classic
records and vintage keyboards, Wreck dived into the
hypnotic river of sound and began his journey into production.
A short gig as Director of A&R at MCA Records under
legendary Bomb Squad producer Hank Shocklee (Public
Enemy, Slick Rick, Ice Cube) gave him the opportunity
to learn the business of how records were made and gave
him the chance to work with King Tee. After King Tee
was dropped, he left MCA and was signed to Dr. Dre’s
new Aftermath Records. After giving Tee a beat CD that
was passed along to Dre, Fred received a call from the
Doctor to come in for surgery, and Fred put in work
on Dre’s 2001. At the same time, Fred was roommates
with Xzibit and he met legendary producer/keyboard player
Soopafly, who also took a beat CD of his and passed
it along to Daz n Kurupt, which led to production on
the classic “Streetz iz a Mutha” LP and
a production deal with none other than Snoop Dogg.
Fred's Djed for Xzibit, Snoop Dogg, The DoggPound, Cypress
Hill and many others and has played keyboards in bands
for Snoop, Cypress Hill and Westside Connection- just
to name a few. He’s conducted the band for The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno numerous times, performed
on The Jimmy Kimmel Show, MTV Live and MTV New Years
Eve Party. An outspoken supporter of the Palestinian
movement, he is sometimes a guest on Foxnews and other
radio programs. He’s currently living in Los Angeles,
and is always working in the studio and experimenting
with sound and music. |
